Evia

Bays, coastal towns and mountains on an island linked to the mainland

Get to know Evia

Amarynthos and the waterfront promenade

Evia offers an island holiday with a bridge connection to the mainland. Chalkida's bridges lead to several different coastlines: the Evian Gulf, the eastern Aegean, northern thermal towns and the mountainous south. When comparing hotels in Evia, first choose the part of the island around which you want to build your days.

Loutra Edipsou and Limni offer different northern Gulf bases. Agia Anna connects a hill village with Agali beach below. Chalkida provides a city beside the strait; Eretria and Amarynthos bring the stay back to waterfront meals. Kymi overlooks the Aegean side, while Karystos and Marmari turn towards southern Evia, harbours and selected mountain outings.

We would compare villas in Evia and hotels around the actual address and the evening you want to return to. A promenade meal, a hill village and a mountain outing need different plans. Choose one region, or divide the stay when distant parts matter equally, leaving room to enjoy the overnight base.

Where to stay in Evia: north, centre or south?

First, choose the area that suits you

Evia is a long island; its mainland connection does not put every town next door. Start with the Evian Gulf or Aegean coast, then choose a city, seaside town or elevated village. That narrows the accommodation search around your preferred routine.

These regions distinguish north, centre and south while considering elevation. Compare the actual route to dinner and your intended beach rather than straight-line distances. For a holiday crossing several regions, check the route and consider an additional overnight base.

  • Limni and the Gulf promenade

    Northern Evia

Thermal heritage in Loutra Edipsou and Limni’s maritime waterfront offer two northern Gulf bases

Northwestern Evia connects Gulf-facing towns with different reasons to stay. Loutra Edipsou is associated with hot springs, historic hotel buildings and a thermal waterfront. Limni offers streets leading towards the shore, neoclassical houses and a maritime trading heritage. Choose between them around a day spent close to your accommodation.

We would compare bases here when waterfront meals and town walks matter. In Edipsou, identify the bathing facility you intend to visit. In Limni, consider the relationship between the house, streets and promenade. These are separate northern bases rather than one shared centre.

Check the actual address and services. A hotel near the springs does not automatically include spa entry, while a sea-facing photograph of Limni does not describe a level route to the room.

  • Amarynthos and the waterfront promenade

    Central Western Coast

Chalkida’s strait, Eretria’s archaeology and coastal Amarynthos offer different routines around the central Evian Gulf

Chalkida is Evia's mainland gateway and a city extending across both sides of the Euripus Strait. Bridges, promenade and urban streets shape its routine. Farther along the Gulf, Eretria connects a waterfront with remains of the ancient city. Amarynthos adds a coastal town with tavernas and a local relationship with the sea. These are different bases rather than interchangeable resort names.

Compare Chalkida for city life beside the strait, Eretria when archaeology and coast share the plan, and Amarynthos when waterfront meals set the pace. Choose the routine alongside the accommodation type.

Establish the particular beach, parking and dinner route from each address. Bridge proximity does not establish a swimming beach; Eretria's intended archaeological visits also need opening-hour checks.

  • Kymi on eastern Evia slopes

    Aegean Coast

Kymi stands above the Aegean, with its separate port changing the address choice in eastern Evia

Kymi stands above Evia's eastern coast. Tiled roofs, neoclassical buildings and town streets distinguish it from the port area below. Its association with Aegean views describes the outlook rather than guaranteeing a walk from every room to the water. The maritime connection with Skyros belongs to the port, separately from the elevated town streets.

We would compare stays here for an Aegean-side base combining town time, views and selected coastal outings. Dried figs and local pastries add possibilities for meals or shopping during the day. Choosing the town or port also changes the evening you return to.

Establish street and elevation before booking. For an onward ferry, confirm dates and services with the operator and plan the room-to-port route separately.

  • Bourtzi and the Karystos harbour

    Southern Evia

Karystos and Marmari combine harbours, tavernas and southern landscapes, offering different bases for your stay

Southern Evia brings the sea together with Mount Ochi and the Karystos landscape. Karystos has a harbour, promenade, squares and neoclassical architecture. Marmari faces another bay, combining a harbour village, restaurants and a ferry connection with Rafina. Beaches and mountain routes add outings without replacing the decision about your evening base and actual address.

We would compare accommodation here for a southern-island holiday with waterfront meals and selected excursions. Karystos offers town streets and squares; Marmari focuses the stay on its harbour and your chosen nearby shore. Both need not feature in every day's plan.

Check current ferry services when arriving by sea, and beach conditions individually. Dimosari Gorge or Mount Ochi outings require separate planning and a route suited to your experience.

Found the area that suits you?

Now choose exactly where to stay

Compare possible bases: Loutra Edipsou's thermal waterfront, Limni's streets, Eretria's promenade or southern Evia. In Kymi and Agia Anna, distinguish the elevated settlement from the port or beach below.

The place name starts the search; the address completes it. Compare dinner walks, beach outings and luggage access. A room facing the sea does not necessarily stand beside the water.

  • Pier in Loutra Edipsou

    Loutra Edipsou

Couples and travellers choosing a thermal town, waterfront meals and northern Gulf walks

Loutra Edipsou combines northern Evia’s thermal heritage with a coastal promenade. Compare stays around bathing facilities, meals and town walks.

    Our tip

Check the address against your intended bathing facility and its entry arrangements. A hotel near springs does not guarantee an operating spa or included admission.

  • Limni and the Gulf promenade

    Limni Evia

Couples and travellers choosing a Gulf-side town, local streets and waterfront meals

Limni faces the northern Evian Gulf, combining streets towards the shore, neoclassical houses and maritime heritage with a town-based stay.

    Our tip

Locate the house against the promenade, checking the uphill return and parking. A Gulf-facing balcony does not establish a waterfront or step-free address.
